Fire Safety Course (Half Day)

The ½ Day Fire Safety Course is suitable for all employees and lasts approx. 3-3 ½ hours and covers;

  • Fire Safety in the Workplace
  • Safe and correct use of portable firefighting equipment (theory and practical)
  • Causes of Fire
  • Human behaviour

This course can be designed, modified and developed to incorporate a company’s Fire Safety policies and procedures.

The duration and content of the Fire Safety Course can be altered to suit a company’s work practices and schedules.

Fire Marshal / Fire Warden CourseThe Fire Marshal / Fire Warden Course is designed for individuals who have a responsibility in respect of Fire Safety matters within the company.

The key areas studied are:

  • Fire Safety in Buildings.
  • Human Behaviour during evacuation and emergencies
  • Safe and correct use of portable firefighting equipment (theory and practical)
  • Role and responsibility of the Fire Marshal / Fire Warden
  • Fire Prevention techniques for safer workplaces
  • Basic principles of fire Risk Assessment.

FIRE Risk Assessment

Legislation

Since the introduction of the Fire Precautions (Workplace) Regulations in 1997 employers are required to conduct a Fire Risk Assessment. If 5 or more persons are employed the Fire Risk Assessment must be recorded in writing and held on the premises available for inspection by the local Fire and Rescue Authority.
Legislation can be viewed on the Scottish Executive and ODPM websites.

What is a Fire Risk Assessment?

Legislation stipulates that a “responsible person” is required to undertake an assessment of the risk of fire and take appropriate action to reduce or remove any risk identified. The Risk Assessment must take into account the effect a fire will have on anyone within or around the premises. It is also a requirement that the Risk Assessment is kept under regular review.

A Fire Risk Assessment:

* Identifies potential fire hazards
* Determines personnel at risk
* Evaluates the dangers
* Records findings
* Informs employees of the assessment
* Regularly reviews, revisits and updates procedures
